Wallpaper Removal And Installation

by Mark I Myhre

Many people these days are getting their old wallpaper removed, and just painting over the walls rather than putting up new paper. That seems to be what’s in fashion. You still see wallpaper in some of the rich people’s houses, though.

Wallpaper removal can be a little tricky. Sometimes it comes off easy, and sometimes it doesn’t. I remember a 2400 square foot condo where I went to give them an estimate for painting and removing wallpaper, which they had on most of the walls in the whole place. I walked up to one wall, tugged the paper loose with little effort, so I gave ’em a low price.

Well, wouldn’t you know it! That was the only spot in the whole condo that was easy. We spent SO MUCH TIME getting the paper off those walls so we could paint. I’ll never forget that experience. Live and learn, huh?

The point is, you never know for sure what you’re getting into when you start stripping wallpaper. The biggest issue is whether or not the walls were properly primed (‘sized’) before the wallpaper was first hung.

Wallpaper sizing is a special primer specifically made for applying to walls before the wallpaper goes up. If the walls had the sizing applied before the wallpaper was hung, then the paper WILL come off now. You just might need to use a few tricks to help the removal process along…

If you rip off the wallpaper and you remove some of the drywall paper by mistake, don’t panic! The walls can be smoothed and repaired. Hopefully, though, you’ll call us up before that happens…

Anyway, like I said, the rich people are still goin’ with wallpaper. Don’t ask me why. I’ll be happy to put it on, and I’ll be just as happy to remove it. I’ve learned the hard way, through trial and error, how to get that stuff off without damaging the walls. So for wallpaper removal or installation in Gainesville FL you know what to do.

Give us a call and we’ll come take a look at what you got.
